Solar river transport community enterprise
La Nacionalidad Achuar, las asociaciones de MAANA, y MAWAK, Fundación ALDEA
The Achuar solar river transport enterprise is a project between the Achuar Nationality of Ecuador, Fundacion ALDEA, and the Interamerican Development Bank. The project is establishing a solar river transport system to give improved access to services, markets and other communities to nine Achuar communities. Lack of access to transportation in the Amazon limits school attendance and visits to health clinics, keeps communities disconnected from one another, and hinders the development of economically productive activities like the interchange of agricultural goods and tourism. Existing solutions do not address this problem adequately: gasoline and diesel for boats is expensive and contaminating, and roads cause deforestation and bring cultural degradation. PlanJunto is responsible for establishing the community enterprise element of the project.
